Emerging technologies are typically new technologies whose evolution, existing applications, or both, are still in early stages, leaving them virtually latent in the popular consciousness, though they are certainly figuratively emerging out of a backdrop of obscurity or nonexistence. Some early examples of these technologies include cellular phones (before their wide-ranging and successful wireless-communication revolution), personal computers, digital music players, handheld digital video recorders, air-conditioning units, televisions, and the Internet. The rapid pace at which these technologies are evolving is particularly noteworthy because most new technologies typically emerge in step-by-step succession. As new technologies continue to emerge, old technologies become more vulnerable to obsolescence.

However, when it comes to emerging technologies, it is often difficult to discern what their main characteristics are. Most people can’t readily pin down one main aspect of what emerging technology is, although there are a few general characteristics that all emerging technologies share. These include the fact that they are k” seemingly” superior to established technologies. Additionally, they are usually much smaller in size and require fewer resources to use than older technologies. Lastly, they don’t have the same level of market penetration as the older technologies.

One emerging technology that is starting to have an impact on society is nanotechnology. Nanotechnology is the study and engineering of matter using nanoscience tools to create microscopic-sized materials, called nanostructures. This process creates new materials that are stronger, lighter, more flexible, and more biocompatible than ever before. Some of the most exciting and promising applications of nanotechnology include smart dust, prosthetic tissue, and batteries.

Another emerging technology is robotics. Robotics is the application of computer science and technology to create intelligent robotic machines that can do regular household chores such as cooking, cleaning, and walking without necessarily human supervision. Robotic technologies are steadily improving and are expected to have a significant impact on society by the year 2030. One area of particular interest in this field is prosthetics. Many advances are being made in prosthetics that will give those who suffer partial or full body paralysis a new chance for freedom.

One other emerging technology that is rapidly gaining popularity is biodegradable plastics. Biodegradable plastics are made from materials such as oil, water, and natural materials like leaves, wood, and tree stalks. These types of plastics are easy to recycle, thus minimizing the number of natural resources that are needed to produce them. These types of plastics may even have uses beyond satisfying a need for new toys since they have the potential to be strong enough to withstand many impacts. This type of emerging technology could also lead to a reduction in the consumption of natural resources because there is less need for landfills to store these plastics.

There are several other emerging technologies. Some of these include automatic toothbrushes with teeth-like capabilities, infrared thermal cameras that can detect body heat, and self-cleaning litter boxes. These and other technologies are converging to produce products and services that are more convenient and affordable. There are many ways to find out more about these new technologies.
